On Tuesday 9th May, the Presidency will host the Eleventh Meeting of the EU’s eHealth Network, in collaboration with the Commission and EU Member States.

The eHealth Network is a voluntary network of national authorities responsible for eHealth that was set up as a result of the EU’s Cross-border Healthcare Directive.  It draws up guidelines in the area of eHealth and aims to enhance interoperability between electronic health systems and continuity of care, and to ensure access to safe and quality healthcare.  It meets twice a year.


The agenda of the Network’s Meeting in Malta is expected to include:
  • Adoption of an agreement between national authorities responsible to facilitate the cross-border exchange of health data
  • Adoption of a specific eID framework for eHealth
  • Adoption of documents related to implementation and work of National Contact Points for eHealth
  • Formal endorsement of recommendations on “Big Data in Public Health”
  • Presentation of a proposal for guidelines on the interoperability of electronic health professional registries
  • Report by the sub-group working on the Network’s Multiannual Work Plan for 2018 to 2021.
