The Media Centre is situated on the ground floor of the Grand Master’s Palace, accessible from Archbishop’s Street. The facilities and services available at the Media Centre are as follows:

Accreditation Desk and Security screening

The accreditation desk is situated at the entrance of the Media Centre. Members of the press can collect their accreditation badges either a day prior to the Informal Meeting or on the day.

Information Press Desk

The Information Desk will be providing useful information, services and assistance on the following:

    • General Information;
    • Agenda of the Day;
    • Registration for Media opportunities;
    • Booking of Media booths; and
    • Technical Support.

Maltese EU Presidency staff office

The Press Office of the Maltese EU Presidency is situated on the ground floor of the Media Centre, just behind the security screening area.

Press workstations

There is a total of 250 workstations spread over two floors, having high bandwidth wired and wireless internet access and printing facilities. These workstations are equipped with universal power socket outlets (220V) together with wired data socket outlets. Technical support is also available.

Media representatives may reserve work spaces by means of a label indicating their name and media organisation. The press office of the 2017 Maltese Presidency of the Council of the EU cannot reserve work spaces. Reserved spaces not occupied at the beginning of the proceedings of the event may be taken by others. 

Catering Facilities

Meals and refreshments are available in the lounge area situated on the first floor. Coffee, tea, water, soft drinks and light snacks will be available around the clock.

Tv/Radio booth facilities

There are 11 media booths equipped with universal power outlets, wired and wireless internet access, LAN connection and a monitor/TV. The booths will be wired to receive live video and audio feeds (floor language and translations) from the meetings covered by the Host Broadcaster. Pool signal in HD is available in the media booths. Radio booths will also be equipped with ISDN lines. The media booths can be reserved on a first come, first served basis by sending an e-mail to [email protected]

Upon request to the host broadcaster, media representatives can be provided with fixed line telephony services, premium internet services and TV services. 

Stand-up positions

There are 4 fully equipped stand-up positions and these will be rigged on demand. They are fully equipped with a camera, microphone and lighting. There is also space available for non-live and non-equipped stand-up positions. Stand-up positions can be booked directly with the host broadcaster at [email protected]

Other available facilities situated on the first floor at the Media Centre include the following:

    • Host Broadcaster’s office;
    • Master Control room;
    • Pool signal in HD available in the media booths. Lounge;
    • Printing booth with 6 multifunction printers;
    • Storage facilities for personal belongings;
    • Lounge.​

A press conference room having 80 seats and 2 press briefing rooms are also available.

Opening hours

The Media Centre will open at 7 am every day, and will close 4 hours after the last press opportunity of the day.

Host broadcaster

The Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) will be engaged as the official host broadcaster for the 2017 Maltese Presidency of the Council of the EU. PBS operates TVM and TVM2 television channels and the Radio Malta, Radio Malta 2 and Magic Malta radio stations. PBS is an official member of the European Broadcasting Union, and will provide accredited media with free of charge audiovisual material from the Informal Ministerial Meetings and other high-level events taking place in Malta.

Host photographer

During the high-level events, the Host Photographer will be based at the Media Centre. Documentation of all the main events of the 2017 Maltese EU Presidency will include Informal Ministerial and other high-level meetings.
