​Background and Aims

The Joint Action for the European Guide On Quality Improvement In Comprehensive Cancer Control (CANCON) was conceived to bring together participating organisations, institutes, universities and health care providers, and the EU Commission with the ultimate aim of contributing in different ways to reducing the cancer burden in the European Union. 
The Joint Action started in 2014 and will be concluding with a Final Conference that will be held in Malta on the 14th and 15th February 2017 under the auspices of the Maltese tenure of the Presidency of the EU Council. 

The conference will include four (4) other plenary sessions with panel discussions. These include:

  1. High-Level Plenary Assembly titled Action, Cooperation and Implementation at European Union and Member States’ level of the recommendations of the JA CANCON. The EU Commissioner for Health and Food safety and Ministers for Health for the EU Member States that led the Joint Action and Work Packages are being invited to attend and contribute to this session. 

  2. The launch and presentation of the key findings and recommendations of the European Guide on Quality Improvement in Comprehensive Cancer Control. This publication will be the main deliverable of the Joint Action.

  3. Challenges in Cancer Policy at the European Union Level

  4. The launch and presentation of the key findings and recommendations of five (5) Policy Papers. These papers are the deliverables of the Member States’ Platform and cover diverse issues including:

a. An impact evaluation system to assess prevention outcomes
b. Common European objectives for National Cancer Control Plans 
c. Public Health Genomics in Cancer
d. Disinvestment for Resources Reallocation in Healthcare
e. Equity Mainstreaming in Cancer Control in Europe
